TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT, AND ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT: Expectations from the New Generation of Workers Entering the Workforce

The incoming generation of workers, better known as Generation – Z, are starting to enter the workforce. Many organizations want to attract, hire, and retain them as employees. However, Generations – Z and the younger Millennials have certain expectations when it comes to the employer they choose to work for. This paper aims to analyze the incoming generation of worker’s value of training and development, as well as the correlation between training and development, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. There is still not much data available about the workplace post-pandemic, as well as data on Generation – Z’s job satisfaction and organizational commitment, however it is possible to draw conclusions based on historical data, current training and development trends, and the data on what Generation – Z currently expects from their future place of employment. Existing research reveals that the new generation of workers value training and development opportunities. The shift from in-person training and development to virtual training and development techniques align well with the preferred learning methods of young Millennials and Generation – Z. Furthermore, organizations that plan to offer the next generation of workers training and development can expect to see young Millennials and Generation – Z employees satisfied with their job, and expressing organizational commitment for the long-term.
